Ashok Leyland, India’s leading commercial vehicle maker and flagship of the Hinduja Group, has announced a major win — a new order for 1,937 state-of-the-art buses from the Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings (TNSTU).
This ₹668.76 crore deal further cements Ashok Leyland’s leadership in the Indian bus industry and strengthens its long-standing partnership with Tamil Nadu’s public transport system.

Ashok Leyland already powers over 21,000 buses in Tamil Nadu’s fleet. This new order is expected to upgrade the state’s public transport with more comfortable, efficient, and safer buses designed for both city and long-distance travel.
The buses are AIS 153 compliant, ensuring they meet the latest safety and performance standards. The fleet will feature:
- Electronic Stability Control for improved safety
- Auto Transmission for smoother rides
- Air Suspension & Optimized Floor Height for comfort
- Wheelchair ramps for accessibility
- Upgraded batteries and alternators to support modern ITMS systems
