Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML), one of India’s largest integrated sugar companies, has launched a unique initiative at Shree Ram Mandir, Ayodhya, to promote sustainability during the upcoming Dussehra celebrations.

As part of its Balrampur Bioyug PLA brand, BCML will distribute over 2.5 lakh compostable prasad boxes and 1 lakh PLA-based water bottles to devotees on October 2, 2025 — a symbolic gesture aligning with both Dussehra and the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign.

A Step Towards Greener Celebrations

The eco-friendly packaging is made of PLA (Polylactic Acid), a bio-based, IS 17088-certified compostable material. Unlike single-use plastics, PLA products are safe, durable, and environmentally responsible, including the caps of the water bottles.

By introducing these biodegradable alternatives, BCML aims to reduce plastic waste generated at large religious gatherings while maintaining cultural sanctity.

Leaders Speak on the Initiative

  • Vivek Saraogi, Chairman & MD, BCML, said:
“Sustainability is not an option but a responsibility. Launching this initiative during Dussehra and Swachh Bharat is symbolic — celebrating responsibly while protecting the environment. We want this step to inspire festivals and institutions across India to adopt greener choices.”
  • Avantika Saraogi, Executive Director, BCML, added:
“Sustainability is a movement that must be experienced. Festivals like Dussehra are the perfect opportunity to let people see and trust alternatives like PLA. It shows that eco-conscious choices can be practical, respectful of tradition, and scalable.”

Aligned with National Campaigns

The initiative is part of the “Swachhotsav – Celebrating Cleanliness Together” theme of Swachhata Hi Seva 2025, merging India’s festive spirit with environmental responsibility.

With the support of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and collaborations with MSME partners across southern and western India, BCML has ensured the large-scale rollout of this green initiative.
