Engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has entered into a strategic partnership with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to jointly support India’s ambitious Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, a next-generation fighter aircraft initiative of the Indian Air Force.
The two defence majors will respond to the Expression of Interest (EoI) issued by the Government of India’s Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in the coming weeks.
Key Highlights of the Partnership
- Objective: To contribute to the design and development of India’s 5th-generation fighter aircraft (AMCA).
- L&T’s Role: Leverage its expertise in strategic defence, aerospace platforms, and systems integration.
- BEL’s Role: Bring proven experience in defence electronics, avionics, and mission-critical systems.
- Outcome: A cutting-edge, indigenous solution aligned with the Government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Building on a Strong Legacy
This is not the first time L&T and BEL have collaborated on indigenous defence programmes. Both companies played a vital role in the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme by supplying major aero-structure modules and developing avionics systems. The new partnership aims to take this legacy further by delivering world-class defence and aerospace platforms for the Indian Air Force.
Leadership Statements
S N Subrahmanyan, CMD, L&T, said:
“This collaboration with BEL marks a significant leap in our commitment to modernising India’s defence capabilities. Together, we will deliver next-generation technologies that strengthen national security and self-reliance.”
Manoj Jain, CMD, BEL, added:
“The AMCA project represents India’s growing capabilities in defence technology. With L&T’s engineering expertise and BEL’s strength in defence electronics, we are confident of delivering a world-class solution for the Indian Air Force.”
Why This Matters for India
- Boosts Self-Reliance: Supports India’s goal of reducing dependence on foreign defence imports.
- Strengthens Air Power: The AMCA programme will equip the Air Force with stealth, advanced avionics, and superior combat capabilities.
- Industry Growth: Reinforces India’s position as a rising global player in aerospace and defence manufacturing.
